The Kansas Policy Institute alongside Missouri think tank, The Show Me Institute, has released a joint letter to Gov. Laura Kelly and Gov. Michael Parson, opposing taxpayer stadium subsidies and a potential bidding war between Kansas and Missouri taxpayers over the location of The Kansas City Chiefs stadium.
STAR bonds provide government-structured financing for projects, but they have proven ineffective in sparking economic growth in the past.
“Subsidized projects do not work for taxpayers largely because ongoing economic activity is merely shifted. Citizens have no new money to spend; they are just spending existing dollars elsewhere. That shift must come at someone else’s expense.”
